Why Should You Choose Our Day Camp?
Choosing our day camp means giving your child a summer filled with adventure, growth, and unforgettable memories. We’re an active, outdoor-focused camp where kids spend full days playing sports, creating unique crafts, exploring nature, and swimming daily. We spend as much time as possible outdoors, so campers should come prepared for any and all weather situations. Even in a drizzle, we’ll enjoy outdoor play, making proper clothing essential. For more serious weather, we utilize a variety of indoor facilities available to us—including The Lodge, the Collins Perley Sports & Fitness Center, City Hall Auditorium, and even the Welden Theatre—so the fun never stops. Most importantly, we’re proud to have the best staff around: experienced, caring counselors dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and exciting environment for every camper.

Did you know? Did you know that if your child is signed up for swim lessons, swim team, or any other program offered by the St. Albans Recreation Department that occurs DURING camp hours - our staff will get them where they need to go! However, we will now know your child is signed up for anything unless YOU tell us at drop-off. If your child is signed up for another program, please let the camp director know what the program is and what time it occurs. Without communication from a parent, we will not know that they need to be somewhere.

Similarly, we also have a late pick-up option. If you cannot pick up your child before 4:30pm, you can register for late pick up at the same time you register for Day Camp. Late pick up allows your to pick up your child a half hour later, all children MUST be picked up by 5:00pm. This is a separate registration and an additional charge.

If you are late picking up your child and your child is not previously registered for late pick ups, please call to let us know that you will be late. There is a $20 charge for each 30 minutes and/or portion thereof after 4:30pm. The charges will be automatically added to your recreation account.

Important Camp Notes
  • Day Camp is TREE NUT FREE - Please be sure your campers snacks & lunches are PEANUT & TREE NUT FREE.
  • We're very active and outdoors most of the time. Scrapes and bumps are bound to happen. We do not call parents during the day for a routine bump or scrape. We apply ice, bandage, and some affection :) (as indicated) and inform parents at the time of pick up. If there is an injury beyond that or the camper becomes ill during the day, we immediately contact parents/guardian at the phone number the family has given us. Please be sure your day time number is up to date.
  • Campers are expected to demonstrate respectful behavior toward staff, fellow campers and camp materials. Participation in all scheduled activities and adherence to safety protocols is required. Disruptive, harmful or disrespectful behavior - including repeated failure to follow instructions - will not be tolerated. Failure to follow these expectations may result in removal from the program.
  • Need to reach camp? During camp hours call 802-393-0331. Otherwise contact the Rec office at 524-1559 or 524-1971

Sunscreen!!
  • Pack your child sunscreen daily! We recommend packing a spray sunscreen or an easily applicable lotion for their body and a face stick for their face.
  • Check the expiration date! Believe it or not, sunscreen does expire.
  • If your child is sensitive to the sun or has been getting a little too much sun, consider packing them a sun hat and shirt. The more areas of the body covered in the pool and on a day to day basis the better. Hats are great for camp!
  • Teach your children the importance of sunscreen!! Our counselors make sure to set aside a lot of time throughout the day to sunscreen and make themselves available to help with the process however, it is ultimately up to your camper to find a counselor during that time to help them apply their sunscreen.

General Camp Rules
  • Please label all items that come to camp so they can be returned to you if left behind.
  • No peanut and tree nut products are allowed. Camp is “Nut Free”
  • Send (and label) a swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen for your camper.
  • No toys or personal collections should be brought to camp. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. THIS INCLUDES POKEMON CARDS!
  • No swearing or inappropriate language is allowed.
  • No fighting, bullying, or disrespectful behavior.
  • Respectful behavior toward oneself, each other, the staff, and all facilities are expected at all times.
  • Hydration is very important so please provide a water bottle with your child’s name on it.
  • No electronics including games, iPods, etc.
  • No cell phone use allowed. Campers are allowed to have a cell phone – it stays in their backpack – they cannot make calls/text unless they ask permission and are supervised by camp staff.
  • We’re pretty active! Make sure your camper is wearing proper/sturdy footwear for lots of outdoor play, hiking, and running. Sneakers are best. Sandals are not a good choice for running but are a great additional pair to have in your bag for the end of the day at the pool!
