About the Course:
Earn your certification to teach American Red Cross swimming and water safety, and gain the skills needed to teach courses and make presentations to swimmers of every age and ability. Through our Aquatic Instructor Training program, you can help recreational swimmers meet their goals, refine their skills and stay safe in, on, and around water.
This course is a blended learning format (23.5 hours in person, 7 hours online) . Participants will register and do part of the work online and then meet for class discussions and practical hands on work at the pool. American Red Cross log on information will be given to each participant so they can get set up for the online portion of the course.
Note: In order to participate in the Water Safety Instructor course, participants must be at least 16 years of age by the end of the course.
The Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Course:
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course trains candidates to teach courses and presentations in the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress. The courses and presentations include Parent and Child Aquatics Levels 1 and 2 Preschool Aquatics Levels 1 - 3 Learn-to-Swim Levels 1 - 6 three adult courses as well as the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses and more. To enroll instructor candidates must be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course and successfully complete the precourse session which includes demonstration of swimming skill at Learn-to-Swim Level 4.

Enrollment in the course does not guarantee nor imply certification or employment.
Completion:
Participants must be present at ALL training sessions, and complete practical and written tests to the standard to earn certification. There is no refund to participants who withdraw from or do not satisfactorily complete the course. The online portion must be completed as the class progresses.
Blended Learning (Online Portion):
Once registered, participants will receive an email from an instructor with information on how to access the online portion. This information will be available at least 10 days prior to the first day of class. Participants will need online computer access.
What to bring:
Participants will receive a manual. Participants must bring their own: swimsuit, multiple towels, warm clothes, water, snacks, notepad, large 3 ring binder, writing utensil. Participants will be in and out of the pool often.

Participants will need to register with THEIR OWN email & phone. This is where all information and online content will be sent.
