Chair Caning Class with Ellen Reed
Do you have a chair kicking around that you've wanted to get repaired? Learn to do it yourself at our chair caning class!
Both kinds of caning will be taught. Both the type shown in the photo and chairs with a groove around the edge and the cane is installed as one piece into the groove. Participants need to bring the chair that they will be working on to the Recreation Department by 1/12/19. Ellen will meet with students at 9am on 1/12/19 to discuss materials needed. Chairs can be dropped off anytime before then. Material charges will be in addition to the registration cost.
All supplies needed will be supplied at the first class and payment can be made at that time for the materials. Supplies can vary but are generally between $20 and $30 project. It's important to bring your chair to the Recreation Office by January 12, 2019 so you and Ellen can discuss what kind of seat you'd like to make and we can be sure to have the right materials for your chair project. Options include weaving or panel canning (right) or Splint canning (below)
The first class on 1/19/19 spans the lunch hour so participants are encouraged to bring a lunch.
