Lifeguard Training & Certification Renewal - ages 15+ Register View Cart

The American Red Cross lifeguard training and certification are imperative to the process of getting hired on as an official Red Cross lifeguard. Our detailed training includes both testing of hands-on skills as well as comprehension on written tests. The certification, which includes First Aid, CPR and AED training, is valid for two years upon completion and is accepted nationwide. The American Red Cross is the most respected source for training and certification of this kind.

Lifeguard Training & Certification: This course is a blended learning format (19.5 hours in person, 7.5 hours online) .  Participants will register and do part of the work online and then meet for class discussions and practical hands on work at the pool. Upon successful completion of a prerequisite swim, American Red Cross log on information will be given to each participant so they can get set up for the online portion of the course.

Lifeguard Re-certification: This course is all in person (8 hours)  Participants must have current ARC lifeguard certification or 30 days or less past expiration.

Enrollment in the course does not guarantee nor imply certification or employment. Participants must complete practical and written tests to satisfaction to earn certification. There is no refund to participants who withdraw from or do not satisfactorily complete the course.

All Lifeguard Candidates must complete the prerequisite swim before starting the training.

- Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.

- Tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

Timed Events: Complete a timed event with 1 minute and 40 seconds.

- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Swim goggles not allowed.

- Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.

- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface in order to breathe (or to get a breath).
